Large red maple hollow vessel

This is a large maple piece made from wood harvested in Milstadt, IL. When the piece was first mounted on the lathe it weighed over 180 pounds. Finished it weighs about 20 pounds. I turned the piece to its final size and shape while green (wet) then put aside to dry. While drying it moved and distorted and also cracked. I decided to embellish the cracks with stitches.
The top is not removable.
